I have zero control over what I eat, she asks me what I like but I'm not picky so essentially I've had most of my meals chosen for me over the last few months. It really hasn't been a problem because my Señora is a phenomenal cook, but lately something strange has been happening...
It all started this past Sunday, I'd just gotten home from Portugal and had just gotten done showering away all of the sand that seemed to be permanently affixed to my scalp when I heard a knock on my door and a "Yennifer". So I open the door and she asks me "¿Te gusta las algas?" to which I replied very confused "¿Qué?". After a short explanation I discovered she was asking me if I liked seaweed and wanted to try seaweed soup, I was unsure but as I'm always willing to try anything once I agreed. Twenty minutes later I was forced to face the steaming bowl of seaweed soup that sat in front of me. Despite the overwhelming smell of fish it was actually very good, it also had ginger, eggplant and onion in it so that cut out the fishy taste. As I was eating she told me that it is purifying, very healthy and also beautifying and that she eats like this every spring. I responded that it seems like a good idea and we could all use beautifying soup, assuming that it was just a one time thing. I didn't know how wrong I was.
Monday night we had seaweed soup again, this time with tofu. Which I usually don't like either but mixed in with the soup it was quite good. I thought well we just had leftovers and this will be the end of it, wrong again. Tuesday for lunch we had a stir fry of beets, cactus and tofu browned with a sesame seed topping. I didn't even know I liked cactus and I thought I hated beets but both were surprisingly delicious, but at this point I was starting to get scared, wondering is this what the rest of my time here will be like, no more tortilla española, turns out the answer is yes. For dinner I had a onion, ginger, celery, eggplant, cilantro clear broth soup. It was amazing as usual, and she informed me that it was all organic which is good. So it seems I'll be going on a cleanse for the next 24 days whether I like it or not.
On the Pantera front it seems she is the only cat in the world who like eggplant, tofu and beets. Who knew.
Jenny... or should I say Jennifer :)
ReplyDeleteYour Aunt Laurie gave me the link to your blog. I have been reading it the last few days like a small novel! Love it soooo much. I'm glad you still have time in Spain to regale us with a few more tales. Thank you for the colorful imagery and for sharing this amazing experience with us! Can't wait to read more,
